An evening centered on connection, conversation, and community.
"Before there's a brand, there's conversation.
And when conversations are real, connection follows."
Mary Gutierrez, The Brand Event, 14 May 2026

When Jeffrey, from Ethan Allen, invited us to host an evening inside their beautiful new San Diego showroom, we knew we wanted to curate something that felt thoughtful, welcoming, and deeply intentional.
We wanted to create a space where people could feel comfortable slowing down, settling into conversation, and genuinely connecting with one another.
The Brand Event brought together entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, and thoughtful people who value meaningful conversations, authentic relationships, and the kind of connection that often gets overlooked in a fast-moving world.

The Room
Throughout the evening, conversations unfolded naturally across the showroom. People lingered longer than they planned. New introductions were made. Familiar faces reconnected. There was laughter, curiosity, warmth, and a shared sense of presence that could be felt throughout the room.
For us, that was always the heart behind the evening.
Not only creating something beautiful and thoughtful, but creating a space where people genuinely felt a part of the room.

Three Brands Walked Into The Room That Evening

Each with our own voice, aesthetic, and presence. Yet somehow, throughout the evening, nothing felt out of place.
Because in every way that mattered, the room was not designed to feel like something people were simply attending; it was designed to feel like something they were part of.

Thoughtfully Considered
Every detail throughout the evening was placed with intention.
From the welcome experience and connection installation to the curated gifting moments and conversation cards, the atmosphere was designed to feel warm, elevated, and inviting, creating a space where people could feel both inspired and comfortable.
Our guest list was selected with the same level of thought and care. Every person invited into the room brought something meaningful with them, their perspective, their story, their energy, and their presence.
The branding wasn't simply the backdrop or the visuals designed for the evening. It wasn't simply a word used to name the event.
The brand became a part of the feeling, the atmosphere, and the experience itself. Because branding at its core is not only what people see. It's also what they feel, how they interact, what they remember, and what they ultimately carry with them afterward.

The Story Behind The Connection
Some relationships don’t begin the way you expect them to. Ours began years ago through a project that didn’t end the way either of us hoped. What followed was an unexpected reconnection, a conversation built on honesty, and eventually, a partnership built on trust, respect, and years of showing up for one another. Over time, that reconnection became one of the most meaningful professional relationships in my life, and in many ways, The Brand Event became an extension of that relationship. That’s how Nita and I found each other. It started with a posting on a job board. Nita needed a logo, and at the time, I was part of a small design group handling outreach and relationship building. Nita and I connected, and she hired us. The project was for her new business, It’s in the Details Travel and Events. She had a vision that blended both worlds together. We created a logo, but looking back, it never fully reflected who she was. At the time, we were focused more on creating something visually appealing than truly understanding the person behind the brand, and I think somewhere deep down, she could feel that too. Nita had revisions she wanted to revisit. I was out of town at the time and passed her request along to the group. I sent the response we collectively decided on, even though something about it didn’t sit right with me. Nita ended the engagement, the project closed, the design group eventually dissolved, and life moved on. But it didn’t fully move on for me. For those who know me well, I’m deeply empathetic. I think about how interactions land and how people are left feeling when things remain unresolved, which is why that experience with Nita stayed with me. When I started Intrinsic Maven, I thought a lot about the kind of business owner I wanted to become, and it made me think about her. Even though months had passed, I reached out simply to apologize for how things ended. No pitch. No agenda. I just wanted to close the gap because it was in my heart. She replied, and from that reply, everything changed. We reconnected slowly. At the time, Nita had already hired someone else for her branding and website, and I was genuinely happy she had found support. But as we talked more, I noticed something. Her branding didn’t reflect her. What I saw in the visual language of her business felt like someone else’s interpretation of who she was. Country. Rustic. But Nita is sophisticated. Chic. Warm but polished. Someone whose presence quietly fills a room, and none of that was showing up in her brand. As our conversations deepened, she eventually shared that she didn’t feel fully confident in it either. That was the moment of alignment, the understanding of: I see what you see. That’s where the trust truly began. We didn’t start over with a logo. We started with Nita, who she was, what she was building, and the conversations that happened when I sat across from her and genuinely listened. I’ve always believed the best brand work starts long before any design decision, and with Nita, the listening revealed everything. Over time, we rebuilt her brand together. We changed what needed to change, kept what was already true, and built something that genuinely reflected the woman behind the business. Nita has pivoted more than once, from travel and events, through COVID, into virtual experiences, and eventually into corporate gifting. Through every shift, my team and I have been there behind the scenes, helping ensure everything representing her business continued to feel aligned with who she truly was. She’s told me more than once, “You know my business better than anyone.” And while that may be true, it's because I’ve paid attention. I’ve believed in what she was building, even during the moments she doubted it herself. What Nita and I built became far more than a client relationship. It became a partnership built on repair, trust, honesty, and years of real conversation. We bring out something in each other, a shared energy, a shared standard, and a shared belief that the things worth doing are worth doing with care. This right here is the essence of what stewardship means to me and how I show up for my clients. And that’s exactly why, when the idea of The Brand Event came up, there was no question. It was always going to be us, together, creating something that reflected everything we had built. The room we created that night, the conversations, the connection, and the atmosphere became the expression of a relationship that started with an apology and evolved into one of the most meaningful professional partnerships of my life. Some relationships don’t begin the way you expect them to. The best ones rarely do.

"... it was good times. I love seeing you in action, Mary. You almost made me cry just from the way you talked about community, connection, and your brand. I resonated with that so much.
I literally opened the gift this morning, and oh my god, so thoughtful. I had a great time and loved being part of it. Thank you so much for thinking of me."

Moments From The Evening
Conversations lingering longer than expected.
New introductions turning into meaningful connections.
Laughter echoing throughout the room.
Quiet moments of reflection between the movements of the evening.
The Brand Event was never meant to feel transactional.
It was meant to feel human.

A Reflection from Mary
As I take time to reflect on the evening, it became so much more than Nita and I could have imagined. I think many of us have been in rooms that felt more like performance than genuine connection. But that Thursday evening was far from that.
At one point during the evening, I paused and as I looked around the room I was filled with gratitude watching conversations unfold naturally, genuine smiles, laughter, curiosity, and people simply enjoying being present with one another.
Nothing felt pretentious. Nothing felt forced.
The atmosphere felt warm, open, and real, something that can be surprisingly rare to experience.
Towards the end of the evening, I had a conversation with one of our guests about creativity. She shared that planning an event like this, curating gifting experiences as Nita does, or building brands the way I do felt like such creative expressions, ones she wished she had herself.
But as we talked more, she realized something important ... she was creative too.
Even if her work didn’t appear creative on the surface, she still had to think creatively and strategically in her profession.
I told her that’s the beauty of creativity, we all carry it differently. Whether someone is a project manager, consultant, attorney, business owner or educator, there is always a level of creativity involved. Some forms are simply more visible than others.
The following day, another guest shared that the conversations around connection, branding, community, and relationships resonated with her so deeply it nearly brought her to tears. Hearing that stuck with me, because what I saw that evening were people experiencing branding and connection beyond the visual sense.
It was the invisible, the thoughtfulness, the care, the emotional awareness, the intention behind every interaction, every detail, and every decision that shaped how the room ultimately felt.
That kind of atmosphere doesn’t simply appear on its own; it’s created intentionally. The visuals and details simply became the expression of those invisible things.
To me, that’s branding in its purest form.
Not simply what people see, but what they carry with them when they leave.
This is what Nita and I hope to continue creating more of together.
Because at the heart of it all, we believe:
We celebrate each other here.
We lift others as we rise.
We believe your win doesn’t take away from someone else's.
Gratefully,
Mary
